Cheltenham Circular Challenge – completing the circle!| 13th July 2011
Winston’s Wish, the leading childhood bereavement charity, was delighted to receive a kind donation thanks to the Rotary Club of Cheltenham Cleeve Vale and the Gloucestershire Echo.
When the Cleeve Vale Rotary Club were organising their annual event, the Cheltenham Circular Challenge, they were very grateful to the Gloucestershire Echo for spreading the word of the event and to encourage people to sign up. The support from the local newspaper led the walk to have over 1,000 participants and generated in excess of £40,000 for local charities. As a thank you to the Echo for their support the Cleeve Vale Rotary Club wished to make a £500 donation to a charity of the Echo’s choice....Winston’s Wish!
Speaking about the donation Nick Ebdon, PR Officer for Cleeve Vale said “We were absolutely delighted when we heard that Winston's Wish was to be the recipient of the cheque. It seemed fitting that as the Echo had given us so much support over many years with the Cheltenham Circular Challenge that a donation to the charity of their own choice would be appropriate. Imagine our delight when we heard who the recipient was to be. For Cleeve Vale Rotary this just completed the circle in a very satisfying way!”
“We, along with the Gloucestershire Echo, are proud to be associated with the wonderful work which Winston’s Wish does” continued Nick.
The Cheltenham Circular Challenge took place on 19 June and saw participants having an option of 4 stages totalling over 26 miles taking in glorious countryside whilst raising money for a charity of the walkers choice.
Speaking about the donation Tony Samuel, Head of Fundraising and Communications for Winston’s Wish said “We were thrilled that the Echo chose Winston’s Wish. We rely on kind and generous donations like these to reach over 30,000 bereaved children and young people every year. Thank you so very much to Cleeve Vale Rotary Club and Gloucestershire Echo for your invaluable support”.
The money donated could fund four face to face sessions for a child and their family with two of our specialist family practitioners – providing support to help deal with their bereavement.
