Children 5's & Under Bereavement Service (C.U.B.S)
Winston’s Wish offers a six-week play and grief support group programme for children aged between 3 and 5 years who have experienced the death of someone important. While adults are dealing with their own grief, it is often difficult to respond to the questions and behaviour of younger children.
This group will allow children and grown-ups to share their experiences of grief, feelings and memories through play, stories and creativity. The adults and children will spend time together and separately. The adults will have opportunities to learn more about their children's developmental needs during grief and to discuss the challenges they face now and in the future.
The group is an opportunity for both the bereaved parent/carer and child to meet others in a similar situation. It is also a chance to think and talk about your thoughts and feelings concerning the important person in your family who has died. Importantly, it provides time to reflect on the developmental needs of your children. The programme includes activities such as telling the story of what happened, exploring feelings and how we manage these feelings. Throughout the group we focus on positive ways of supporting yourselves and each other.
The group will meet once a week for 6 weeks from 9.30am to 12pm.
We hope to deliver this service in the Autumn of 2010.
The group will be held at:
Rowanfield Children's Centre
Alstone Lane
Cheltenham
