Protect Line Coronavi-RACE for Winston's Wish

Protect Line steps up to support the frontline of tomorrow

Protect Line, a life insurance broker based in Dorset, have supported the work of childhood bereavement charity Winston’s Wish since 2015.

Motivated by their employees, who wanted to do something positive to play their part in the fight against COVID-19, Protect Line set to work thinking about their latest fundraiser for Winston’s Wish.

“Towards the end of the 2020, we could see that the looming threat of lockdowns and social distancing was taking a toll on our people. Humans are naturally social creatures, and the lack of opportunities to connect to each other has meant a lot of us have been struggling with negativity and a feeling of disconnect,” said Michelle Vaughton, Head of Learning and Development at Protect Line.

“A team of employees approached us about doing something special in the New Year to lift spirits and give something back to those that are struggling more than we are, and so the idea of the Coronavi-RACE was born.”

The Coronavi-RACE was a simple idea with two main objectives – to raise as much money as possible for Winston’s Wish, the UK’s first childhood bereavement charity, and to help their teams stay connected at a time when many feel overwhelmed, isolated or lonely. The team quickly smashed their initial target of £1,000 and raised an amazing £1,780!

Michelle continued: “We have two offices – one in Poole and one in London – so the idea was to do a virtual walking competition to see how many teams could ‘walk’ the distance of 224 miles. Winston’s Wish are a charity very much in tune with our values at Protect Line and this is our way of helping to keep things fun for our team while staying connected!”

“As a charity, not only have we felt the impact of coronavirus financially but have also sadly seen the increase in the need for our help as a result of this devastating pandemic,” said Paul Moore, Associate Director of Fundraising at Winston’s Wish.

“We know just how difficult it has been for many businesses to continue with their charitable support during this time and we’re incredibly grateful for those, like Protect Line, who have stepped up with such novel and creative ways to make sure that we can be there for every grieving child. As we take our place as the frontline of tomorrow to support those children who have been bereaved as a result of COVID-19, we’ll forever remember those who made our work possible during this incredibly sad time for us all.”
