Raise a wedge for Winston’s Wish and help support bereaved children

Posted by

Winston’s Wish, the leading childhood bereavement charity in the UK, is excited to host its 13th annual golf day at Brickhampton Court Golf Complex on 14th May 2015.

The charity is calling out for teams to enter and take part in the golfing extravaganza, which consists of a challenging 18-hole round of golf with prizes, a rolling carvery buffet, charity raffles and auctions.

The more competitive golfers will also be able to ‘putt’ their skills to test with competitions such as Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive. Winston’s Wish was suitably impressed with last year’s victorious distance of 280 yards; do you think you can beat it this year?

Support from the local business network has played an invaluable part in the success of the golf day event and Winston’s Wish is excited to tee off once again.

In 2014, the running total of the annual golf days surpassed £100,000, a long-term target of organiser Derek Nicholson of Snape Construction.  Liz Thatcher, Fundraiser for Winston’s Wish, explained:

“We’re so excited for this year’s golf day, especially after reaching such a huge fundraising milestone last year. It was very emotional when we realised we’d hit £100,000 and Derek has enjoyed the events so much that he has now agreed to work with us for two more years until he retires.

We’re massively grateful to Creed Foodservice and Snape Construction, who continue to generously support the event; as well as Brickhampton Golf Court Complex who kindly allow us to use their entire complex for the day”.

You can enter a team of four for just £200 and all the money raised from the event goes directly to the vital therapeutic work Winston’s Wish carries out with bereaved children and their families. Liz added:

“It is great to see so many local businesses represented each year on the golf course raising money for Winston’s Wish. The death of a parent or sibling is one of the most fundamental losses a child will ever face and the money raised helps us support over 30,000 children each year when they need it most”.

This year’s event takes place on Thursday 14th May at Brickhampton Court Golf Complex; tee-off time is between 11am and 1pm. To join us on the day and raise a wedge for Winston’s Wish, budding golfers are encouraged to register at www.winstonswish.org.uk/event/raise-a-wedge-for-winstons-wish/ or contact Liz on 01242 515157 / community@winstonswish.org.uk.
