Winston’s Wish is getting in the festive mood thanks to a fantastic fundraising initiative by the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway on Saturday 5th December.
The annual open air carol service with Cheltenham Silver Band is once again being held at Laverton Station. After the service, passengers will re-board the train and enjoy a glass of mulled wine and mince pie before being taken back to the Racecourse station.
Bernard Dudfield, Volunteer at Toddington Station, said:
“We are so pleased to be supporting Winston’s Wish again this year. We all donate our time to this annual charity evening including the train driver, kitchen hands and deacon leading the service. It is a superb time of year and it is always a really lovely occasion”.
The carol service was last held in 2013 and raised £2,400 for Winston’s Wish. It was a windy evening and saw approximately 250 people enjoying the event. This year, refreshments will be provided on the train and it is hoped that even more money will be raised for the charity’s work with bereaved children.
Liz Thatcher, Community Fundraiser at Winston’s Wish, added:
“We would like to say very special thankyou to Bernard and all the team at Gloucestershire Warwickshire steam Railway for giving their time free of charge. We also would like to thank Creed Foodservice for providing the mince pies and Marks and Spencer Cheltenham for providing the mulled wine. These generous donations, marking the start of the season of goodwill!”
