Winston’s Wish, the leading childhood bereavement charity in the UK, is delighted with the results of its partnership with SunLife to date – having surpassed £50,000 in donations.
The charity has been working with the life insurance company since September 2014. In this time, the partnership has raised over £50,000 through donations affiliated to family life insurance quotes received online.
This money goes directly to the vital therapeutic work that Winston’s Wish carries out with children bereaved of a parent or sibling.
In addition, SunLife have supported awareness-raising of the Winston’s Wish service, resulting in families accessing the charity’s support.
In September this year, Winston’s Wish welcomed the SunLife Bristol ‘Brand and Communications Team’ for a volunteer day at the charity’s head office in Cheltenham. The SunLife team gained a deeper insight into the work of Winston’s Wish and took part in practical, helpful activities to assist the charity in its day-to-day work.
This included preparation work for a socio-therapeutic residential group (organising art and memory work materials). The team were also invited to take part in some of the activities done with beneficiaries – for example creating a memory salt jar.
To round off the day, Ian Atkinson – SunLife Head of Brand and PR – facilitated a marketing brainstorm centred on the Winston’s Wish annual Great British Brekkie fundraiser.
Justin Warr, Internal Communications Manager at SunLife, explained:
“Our team spent a day with Winston’s Wish getting a real insight into the great work they do with bereaved children. Part of the day was an immersion into the challenges the staff at Winston’s Wish face on a daily basis, which was very sobering, but very real.
This helped give us the perspective we needed, so we could fully contribute to helping build some of the great campaigns the charity is promoting.
Along the way there was laughter, ideas, and even a few tears as well. We were particularly impressed by the commitment and resilience of the Winston’s Wish guys and the value of the work they do in making lives better every single day.
If our contribution has helped even a tiny bit then that is wonderful – Winston’s Wish is a great cause and a great set of people to spend time with on a team day”.
